POWER SYSTEM
includes the business area related to transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, vacuum interrupters, network protection & control gear, as well as design, execution and servicing of turnkey T&D as well as sub-station projects and solutions including complete end to end Renewable projects. This is the largest business of CG which is now well entrenched throughout the world. It is a high value, high turnover business with a strong global footprint, contributing to approx 70 per cent of CG‟s consolidated revenue. Its facilities are located in Belgium, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, France and UK.
CG is amongst the top 10 transformer manufacturers in the world; and one of the very few companies worldwide, that designs and manufactures such a wide range of Power and Distribution Transformers as well as Reactors from 160kVA to 600MVA, and 11kV to 765 kV Class, conforming to IEC, ANSI, IS, BS and other International Standards. It has recently made an aggressive foray into the manufacture of 765kV transformers with the execution of its maiden order for the Power Grid Corporation of India. CG is a preferred supplier for a wide range of Transformers and Reactors for many critical applications. CG products find use in Industries, Power Utilities, Railways, Mines, and a wide population of Industrial users internationally.
CG has pioneered the technology for the manufacture of compact, reliable SLIM® transformers with high overload capacity in collaboration with Dupont‟s Nomex® thermal insulating technology, rendering it a world leader in wind farm installations, where these transformers have extensive applications. Its Hungarian plant has over 125 years of experience in the production of high voltage GIS switchgear, power transformers, and in the turnkey implementation of various power transmission and distribution projects, including sub-stations. Strengthening these capabilities is its Automation Solutions business which amplifies the Group‟s response to smart "solutions", to respond to the ever changing needs of modern business consumers. CG‟s Power Systems turnkey T&D and sub-station project management team offers comprehensive turnkey solutions and services for design, manufacture, supply, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and servicing of large scale turnkey projects. It brings to its projects a single window source, together with proven project management and execution expertise.
CG is also building competencies and pursuing business opportunities in new segments - renewable energy, ultra high voltage and energy automation, to further augment the products it supplies for windmills and solar power projects. Besides its product strengths, CG has also forayed into turnkey solutions for the renewable segment, by designing and building transmission grids for offshore wind parks. CG‟s acquisition of the MSE Group has further increased its strength as a Systems Integrator in the EPC International business arena, particularly in the Renewable Energy (Wind) segment. CG has also entered into an agreement with the New York State to establish its US R&D facility at the Albany Nanotech Facility, which will enable it to undertake R&D activities in the fields of smart grid technologies and renewable energy applications.

INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS
It is engaged in the business of providing solutions through the supply of power conversion equipments of a wide spectrum of High and Low Tension rotating machines (motors and alternators), inverters & converters, stampings, as well as railway transportation and signaling equipments. Industrial Systems has a very strong market presence and market leadership position in most segments in India. It also caters to overseas markets through its facilities in Hungary and through exports from India. Its product portfolio includes motors ranging from 20W to 25MW and generators ranging from 1kW to 70MW; and CG is the largest manufacturer of Low Tension motors in India offering a range of 0.18kW to 4MW in various standard and customized configurations to respond to the exacting demands of the industry.
To ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction, the latest designs have been incorporated into its range of products, enabling superior and versatile performance. The product offerings are e-enabled, intelligent and energy efficient. The products of this business have received many Indian & international certifications including CSA, UL, ATEX , BASEEFA & CE. The customer focus for this business are the growing segments of power, irrigation and water, oil and gas, metals and minerals, sugar, textile, cement, sponge iron and large steel plants . They also cater to consumers and the railways segments of the market.
This business has now forayed into the drives, automation and process controls business, by entering into strategic partnerships with leading global drive manufacturers. Its variable speed drives have applications upto 5MW. It is also addressing the needs of the renewable energy segment with relevant offerings like hydro generators and windmill generators. The energy efficient brushless technology pioneered by CG in India, has wide applications in BLDC influenced product ranges. CG‟s alternator range is preferred by all major engine manufacturers for DG set application. The complete range of Q-type signaling relays, point machines and data loggers are highly appreciated in the railway segment. CG‟s range of high efficiency commercial & FHP motors are preferred for various consumer and utility applications.
CG has in-house facilities, which manufactures its own requirements of stampings and laminations for its entire range of electrical motors, thus benefiting from in-house self sufficiency. The stamping facilities are fully equipped with the latest high speed blanking lines, `H` frame high tonnage presses and CNC precision notching machines.
The facilities of the Industrial Systems business are located at five locations in India and two at Tapioszele in Hungary. Products of this business are exported to all countries including the markets of USA and Europe.
In April 2010, CG concluded an arrangement for the acquisition of three businesses of Nelco Limited - traction electronics, SCADA and industrial drives. This is a significant acquisition for CG‟s Industrial Systems business and will enable CG to become a stronger and more comprehensive player in its railways business as well as enhance its capabilities in drives and automation for industrial business.
Energy Efficient Motor
Efficient use of energy enables commercial and industrial facilities to minimize production costs, increase profits, and stay competitive. The majority of electrical energy consumed in most industrial facilities is used to run electric motors. Energy-efficient motors now available are typically from 2 to 6 percent more efficient than their standard counterparts. This efficiency Improvement translates into substantial energy and money savings.
CG offers an entire range of energy efficient motors as per the latest IEC, IS & NEMA standards and also complies with the efficiency norms of each geographies.
Drives

An AC drive controls the application by continuously adjusting the motor speed. This results in reduced energy usage and prevents unnecessary wear of the equipment. CG offers a wide product range in the low voltage drives segment. Direct torque control and built-in shaft power monitoring are examples of premium features of AC drives. Direct torque control is considered an excellent method to control motor speed and torque and enables optimal usage of the motor. Our drives are also offered with active front end technology. This enables low harmonic operation as well as regeneration capability for energy saving. The shaft power monitoring reacts if the operation should deviate from selected load levels.
